Join the Waltham Conservation Commission in clearing an aggressive vine from the Storer Conservation Lands surrounding Stonehurst.

A wisteria vine with hundred-old roots is taking over the one-time site of Ferncroft, the Edith Paine Storer house and grounds, choking and toppling nearby trees. Help check the spread of these tenacious vines into the healthy forest. 

Please wear bug spray and bring your gloves, loppers and pruning saw.

Meet at the main entrance of the house at 12:00, or follow the signs from the main entrance to the paved site to the northeast of the house.

A little history.... The house named Ferncroft was built for the oldest Paine daughter and occupied until the 1970s by her son, Theodore Storer, namesake and donor of the Storer Conservation Lands. When the house and its wisteria vine were razed by fire in 1974, the site was paved over as a parking lot. Fire and asphalt are no match for the wisteria which miraculously persists and thrives.
