Save the Forest--Thwart the Wort!

  • Stonehurst, the Robert Treat Paine Estate 100 Robert Treat Paine Drive Waltham, MA, 02452 United States (map)

Grab your pruners and head to Stonehurst to help thwart the nasty invasive black swallowwort. No insects or animals--even goats--can digest it. Some scientists blame the decline of the monarch butterfly to the rise of black swallowwort. Let's get together to clip and bag this tenacious plant now before it sends out thousands of seeds and spreads from the old garden area deeper into the woods.

Meet at the parking lot, near the former site of the Paine family's vegetable garden and orchards. Mornings 8:30-10:30 Aug 30, 31 and Sept 5, 6.

Weather permitting. Please wear long pants and socks and bring your pruners and gloves.
